Opposing Force goes so far as to directly copy gameplay scenarios from the base game. Despite the notable differences between the two games, a significant portion are superficial differences only. Especially with the fairly recent updates to all original Half-Life games, the player is unlikely to encounter major issues while playing the game.įirstly, the most damning point towards Opposing Force is simply how similar the game is to the base game. Lastly, with the age of the game and how well it was optimized at its launch Opposing Force is playable on almost any system. Provided with these new enemies Opposing Force does feel like a fresh experience as the experience gained while playing the base game does not translate directly to Opposing Force. Since in this game the player is part of military force attacking the Black Mesa facility and the scientist aren’t fighting back a bunch of new enemies are introduced. These locations commonly contain ammo and health items, making upcoming encounters a little more manageable.īesides the core gameplay, Opposing Force as a whole adds more variety to the Half-Life experience. There is also the engineer character, which is useful for occasionally unlocking hidden locations the player would otherwise be unable to enter. In Opposing Force, the medic can fully heal the player once the player has suffered enough damage and he can do this for as long as the medic is alive. Where in the base game companion NPCs were essential at some sections, at moments where the player would be otherwise be unable to progress, in Opposing-Force they are more useful during moment-to-moment gameplay.įor example, the scientist in the base game could heal the player once the player has suffered enough damage, but only once and only for a limited amount.
